African Women in Real Estate (A.W.I.R.E)
A.W.I.R.E was established in 2014 as a yearly meeting to bridge the gap in women’s disproportionate access to entrepreneurial opportunities in real estate and property development. Real estate has long been identified as a core investment avenue that provides economic empowerment and sound returns but African women are not gaining much access to the resources or opportunities that the industry provides. A.W.I.R.E is an annual network meeting to foster growth and economic prosperity for women in real estate.
As a sustainability event, AWIRE stands to promote Sustainable Development Goal 5 which aims to achieve gender equality by ending all forms of discrimination, violence and any harmful practices against women and girls in the public and private spheres.
The role of women in contributing to the socio-political development of every nation is paramount to the attainment of the global agenda. The primary target of the goal for gender equality is to “End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere”.
There is a need for innovative strategies to be put in place to ensure women’s empowerment and gender equality.
