Sustainability Conference

Theme - Towards A Sustainable Culture

According to the World Bank, the land construction and real estate sector is one of the most influential globally when it comes to impacting the health and wellbeing of people and the environment. economically, the sector represents more than 50% of global wealth. By providing housing, the land, construction and real estate sector fulfils one of humanity’s basic needs.

However, beneath these opportunities lies the global crisis that must be tackled. With rising populations, rising seas, and threatened ecosystems, cities need new options. By 2050, two-thirds of us will live in cities, according to the UN. New research also shows rising seas will erase more cities by 2050.

The built sector has a substantial sustainability impact through land development, resource use, waste generation and labour practices throughout its life cycle. The sector impacts either directly or indirectly the implementation of almost all United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Being responsible for up to 40% of all carbon emissions globally, the industry has both the obligation as well as the opportunity to make an extraordinary impact in creating a healthier, safer and cleaner planet. The conference will;

Our advocacy goal in the next 10 years is to raise awareness of climate tech, sustainability and ESG in the built environment.

African Women in Real Estate (A.W.I.R.E)

External image

A.W.I.R.E was established in 2014 as a yearly meeting to bridge the gap in women’s disproportionate access to entrepreneurial opportunities in real estate and property development. Real estate has long been identified as a core investment avenue that provides economic empowerment and sound returns but African women are not gaining much access to the resources or opportunities that the industry provides. A.W.I.R.E is an annual network meeting to foster growth and economic prosperity for women in real estate.

As a sustainability event, AWIRE stands to promote Sustainable Development Goal 5 which aims to achieve gender equality by ending all forms of discrimination, violence and any harmful practices against women and girls in the public and private spheres.

The role of women in contributing to the socio-political development of every nation is paramount to the attainment of the global agenda. The primary target of the goal for gender equality is to “End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere”.

There is a need for innovative strategies to be put in place to ensure women’s empowerment and gender equality.
